Today is the Self-Assessment tax return deadline! At the start of the week, 3.4 million tax returns were still outstanding—that’s a staggering 34% of taxpayers yet to file. If you’re one of them, time is running out!
You MUST File & Pay Today!
If you still haven’t submitted your tax return, make sure you do it before midnight to avoid penalties. And remember—it’s not just about filing your return, you also need to pay any tax owed by today.
HMRC’s System is Under Pressure—Don’t Leave It Until the Last Minute!
Last week, when we filed our final client tax return, HMRC’s system was incredibly slow, with multiple failed attempts before we finally got it through. With millions of people scrambling to file today, expect delays and potential system crashes. If you leave it too late, you risk missing the deadline and facing automatic penalties
What Happens If You Miss the Deadline?
If you fail to file your tax return or pay your tax bill by midnight, here’s what you’ll face:
£100 automatic fine – even if you’re only one day late
£10 per day fine – after 3 months (up to £900)
5% of tax owed – added after 6 months
Another 5% of tax owed – after 12 months
Possible higher penalties – if HMRC believes you’ve deliberately avoided filing
